Flight SOP – Walchem Controller Password Management
Applies To: All Flight‑managed Walchem controllers (W600, W900, Intuition‑6, Intuition‑9, WebMaster family) connected via Flight modems
Purpose: Provide a consistent, auditable process for accessing, changing, and recovering passwords on Walchem controllers managed under the Flight program, while minimizing downtime and avoiding unnecessary escalations.
1. Roles & Responsibilities (Flight Context)
Field Technician / Flight Ops (Tier 1)
Verify controller identity (model, serial, MAC)
Attempt default / known credentials
Perform local (keypad) password changes when authorized
Flight Program / SPM (Tier 2)
Validate escalation criteria
Confirm modem ↔ controller mapping
Coordinate with Walchem Technical Support
Walchem Technical Support (Tier 3)
Issue temporary password reset (time‑limited)
No permanent reset without authentication
2. Walchem Security Model (What the Team Must Know)
Walchem controllers use role‑based security:
Admin – full configuration and calibration access
User – view‑only access
Local keypad password – governs physical access at the controller
There is no factory reset that clears passwords
During initial setup, the controller will open in the security settings. The user can designate their email to send a forgotten password code. This step should be completed when initially setting up the controller.
Lost admin/master passwords require Walchem involvement
3. Default Credentials (Flight Reference)
⚠️ Most login failures are caused by using the modem serial number instead of the controller serial number.
Access Type | Username | Default Password |
Admin (Web UI) | admin |
|
User (Web UI) | user |
|
Local Keypad | N/A |
|
4. Standard Password Change Procedure (Known Password)
4.1 Web Interface (Preferred – Flight Remote Access)
Connect via Flight modem (confirm correct IP)
Log in as admin
Navigate to:
Config → Security Settings
Update:
Admin password
User password (if required)
Save changes and log out
4.2 Local Controller (On‑Site)
At controller faceplate:
Menu → Security
Enter current local password
Select Local Password
Enter new password
Log out to re‑lock controller
5. Password Recovery Decision Tree (Field Tech Use)
6. Flight‑Specific Best Practices
Always document:
Controller serial number
Admin password change date
Who authorized the change
Change default credentials during commissioning
Never assume a controller can be factory‑reset
Do not store passwords in modem notes or customer‑visible tools
7. Escalation Criteria (When to Call Walchem)
Admin password unknown AND defaults fail
Local keypad password unknown
Controller security locked with no admin access
Required before calling Walchem:
Controller model
Controller serial number
Confirmation you are on the correct device
Owner: Flight Program – Connected Solutions & Services
Revision: v1.0
Review Cycle: Annual or upon Walchem firmware/security change
