Email Forwarding Configuration (Walchem Intuition 6 & Intuition 9 Controllers)

Describes the three (3) alternatives to configuring email forwarding for Alarms, Data, Graphs or Summary reports on Walchem controllers.

Scope for Setup

To configure email forwarding on Walchem Institution 6 and Institution 9 Controllers the following steps should be performed. Each step is discussed in detail below

  1. Login to Controller

  2. Select and configure the method of Email Forwarding to be used

    1. Recommended: APS suggests Fluent as the preferred method

    2. Hint: If SMTP is used, customer must contact APS to whitelist IP addresses

  3. Add email contact list for receipt of reports

  4. Setup & Configure Reports (Alarms, Data, Graphs or Summary) to be distributed to email list. (Hint: Report times should be staggered so not all are sent at the same time)

  5. Test Emails to ensure proper setup

Note: The controller will always open to a Password Change Required screen unless a new password has been entered. Once the password is changed, unit will open to home screen instead of password page.

2. Email Forwarding Configuration

There are three options for email settings to forward from your controller:

Email Server Type

Pros / Cons

Preferred

Fluent

Pros: Free, don’t need to be signed up on Walchem system, can use without any restrictions.

Cons: Over time, Fluent may not like increased traffic on the eSR system and can drop reports.

Easiest

SMTP

Pros: Easiest and works best with eSR traffic with no restrictions.

Cons: Not encoded/security. Does not work with Dynamic IPs.

Least Preferred

ASMTP

Pros: Uses customer email service and configured by the customer.

Cons: Requires most maintenance, potential for internet security to shut down messaging because of multiple emails sent from same email account from multiple geographic locations

2.1 Fluent Configuration (Preferred)

Utilizes the Walchem controller email service.

1. From Left side panel, navigate to Config > Email Report Settings

2. On bottom of page, select EDIT from Email Server section and select “Walchem Fluent”.

3. UPDATE From Addr Edit box to a meaningful name (i.e. NorthCoolingTower)

a. Only enter the portion of the address to be shown before the @ symbol. All emails will be from @walchem-fluent.net. For example, in the above screen shot, the controller From Addr would be “NorthCoolingTower @walchem-fluent.net”.

2.2 SMTP Configuration

Utilizes AquaPhoenix Scientific’s email service and requires STATIC modem IP configuration. This service does not work with modem dynamic IPs.

  1. From Left side panel, navigate to Config > Email Report Settings

  2. On bottom of page, select EDIT from Email Server section and select “SMTP”.

  3. UPDATE SMTP Server Edit box with “h2trelay.h2tronics.com”

    This is an APS email forwarder.

  4. UPDATE From Addr Edit box to a meaningful name plus “@watertreatmentequip.com” (i.e. NorthCoolingTower@watertreatmentequip.com)

    Note: Cannot use a fake address or company email suffix

  5. SMTP Port defaults to 25 and doesn’t need to be changed.

  6. Because “h2trelay.h2tronics.com” is an AquaPhoenix email service, the IP address of the controller/modem must be provided to APS for whitelisting on the email server.

    • CUSTOMER ACTION:

    a. To submit an IP whitelisting service request, navigate to https://www.aquaphoenixsci.com/contact-us/ and select the Modem Support option.

    INCLUDE: the IP address of the modem, the controller serial number and name, if applicable.

    b. An APS representative will respond when whitelisting has occurred which usually takes 24 hours.

    c. For IMMEDIATE assistance call our Customer Support Line at 888-455-6641.

    • APS ACTION ONLY:

    If customer is unable to locate the IP address, at a minimum we need a Serial Number from the controller for identification.

    a. APS rep submits a Helpdesk ticket to IT (Category: Network) stating:

    "Please whitelist the following static IP address(es) for our H2-tronics forwarder:

    • 1.1.1.1

    • 2.2.2.2

    • 3.3.3.3"

    b. Update the most recent file Whitelisted IP as of MM-DD-YYYY.csv located here: I:\#Cell Modem.

2.3 ASMTP Configuration (Customer Configured)

Utilizes target companies email services and configured by customer only. APS will not have access to companies email service.

1. From Left side panel, navigate to Config > Email Report Settings

2. On bottom of page, select EDIT from Email Server section and select “ASMTP”.

3. UPDATE SMTP Server Edit box with the target companies email service address (i.e. “companyService.company.com”

4. UPDATE From Addr Edit box to a legitimate email name which can be a single account used on all controllers. Like setting up a new account for a new employee.

5. UPDATE ASMTP Password edit box with password for the created account.

3. Adding Email Address

The steps below work regardless of which Email Server configuration being used.

  1. ADD / UPDATE Email Address – Select the blue button and a page will appear allowing for entry up to 8 emails

  2. Once added, email will be presented in the Test Report Receipts section of the Email Report Settings page

    3.1 Testing Email Functionality

Once emails are added to the contact list and a valid SMTP Server Name and From Addr are entered, click the blue "CONFIRM" button in the Send Email Test Report.

Recipients in the contact list will receive an email from the From Addr titled "Test Summary Report - Mon-DD HH:MM:SS". It also includes an attachment of the controller data. The example below was generated from a Fluent configuration.

4. Setting Up Report Types

The steps below work regardless of which Email Server configuration being used.

  1. From Report #1, select the INACTIVE button.

  2. From the Report Type drop down, select the type of report needed.

  3. From the Repetition drop down, select the frequency in which the data is needed. The example below shows “Daily”.

  4. From the Report Time box, set the desired time of the report to run

  5. From the Email Recipients section, select the users to receive the data.

    Note:  Its best practice to stagger Report Times as they are configured.  Do not set them all up to send at the same time.  An offset of 3 minutes per report is recommended.

  6. Once a report is setup, duplicate the process to configure up to 4 Report types for delivery using the Report #2, report #3 and Report #4 drop downs.

  7. Once reports are configured for delivery click on the blue box to open the report for edit to make any changes.

  8. To deactivate a report, change the Report Type back to “None”.

PLEAS NOTE: Due to increasing web security and spam testing, “Graph reports” may be blocked by email services. This is because the graph is an active JavaScript style graphic. This is currently being worked on by Walchem, but no revision date has been released.
