Changing the SIM Card on a Flight Modem

This guide explains how to replace the SIM card in a Flight modem and update the modem’s APN settings.

Updated today

To swap a SIM card on a Flight modem, you will need the following:

  • The new SIM card

  • A laptop*

  • An Ethernet cable

  • A small pin or the tip of a pen

*If your laptop does not have an Ethernet port, a USB-to-Ethernet adapter will be required.

This process requires Flight modem login credentials and a new APN, which can be provided by the AquaPhoenix Customer Success team. Please contact the team before starting.

SIM Card Replacement

  1. Disconnect power from the modem.

  2. Using a small pin or the tip of a pen, press the small button next to the SIM card slot to eject the SIM tray.

  3. Remove the old SIM card and replace it with the new SIM card.

  4. Reinsert the SIM card tray into the modem.

  5. Reconnect power to the modem.

  6. Allow the modem to fully reboot (this may take 2–3 minutes).

Accessing the Modem Interface

  1. Once the modem has rebooted, connect it to your laptop using an Ethernet cable.

  2. Open a web browser and enter the modem’s IP address in the address bar:
    192.168.50.1

  3. This will open the Teltonika router login screen.

Contact the AquaPhoenix Customer Success team for the login credentials.

Updating the APN Settings

  1. After logging in, use the menu on the left side of the screen to navigate to:
    Network → Mobile → General

  2. On the Mobile General settings page, locate the Interface mob1s1a1 APN Configuration section.

  3. Ensure Auto APN is disabled (unless otherwise instructed by Customer Success).

  4. In the APN field:

    • Open the drop-down menu

    • Scroll down and select + Add New

    • Enter the new APN provided by Customer Success

  5. Click Save & Apply.

Reboot and Verify Connectivity

  1. Reboot the modem.

  2. After the modem has restarted, check the cellular indicator lights on the front of the unit.
There are eight indicator lights located above the SIM card tray.

    • The three left-most lights indicate network type (2G, 3G, or 4G).

    • The five lights on the right indicate signal strength.

  3. If everything is working correctly, the 4G light should be solid.

    • If the 4G light is blinking steadily after the modem has fully rebooted, the modem is not connecting to the network. In this case, verify that the SIM card and APN are correct.

    • If the 4G light is solid but connectivity issues persist, check the signal strength indicators.
If two or fewer signal lights are illuminated, the signal may be too weak for the modem to connect to RMS.
