This guide provides instructions for upgrading device firmware for your Peplink device(s) and Cellular Module firmware to resolve the Cellular Modem issue. When the Cellular Module is faulty, SIMs are not detected in the modem and/or the modem will not connect to a cellular network.
Prerequisites
Prerequisites
Device powered on
Ethernet cable
For laptops without an Ethernet port – USB to Ethernet adapter
All antennas connected.
Download the Device Firmware .bin file from the following link: https://download.peplink.com/firmware/ramips/fw-br1minihw3-8.5.0s059-build5185.bin
Required Steps

Workflow
Workflow
There are two possible options for getting connectivity to a modem.
Remotely using a Web Browser (assuming device is already communicating).
Direct Connection with an Ethernet cable between a Laptop and the Modem.
The workflow diagram will guide you through which option and steps are required when attempting to access a modem.
Step 1: Device Firmware Installation
Step 1: Device Firmware Installation
Option 1: Attempt to connect to a modem using a web browser. In the URL line enter the IP address of the modem followed by :8080.
Example: 11.22.33.44:8080
If you see the modem login page, enter the username and password
When Modem Dashboard opens, you can go to step 7 below.
If you did not access the modem user interface, continue with step 4.
Option 2: Connect Laptop to the LAN port on modem with Ethernet cable.
Open a web browser. Enter 192.168.50.1:8080 into the browser.
Login into the Web UI using the following information:
Username: admin
Password: Ch3mtr34t
From the menu, select System.
From the left menu bar, select InControl.
From Controller Management Settings, select InControl from the drop down.
Click Save button and then Apply Changes / Confirm
ATTENTION: At this point navigate to the Status menu item in the top button bar. If you see a heading under System Information which states “In Control Managed Configuration” , you can STOP. The device will automatically update the FW on its own. However, if you do not see that heading, you must continue with Step 11 (Firmware) below to complete the update.
From the left menu bar, select Firmware
From “Manual Firmware Upgrade”, select Choose File and locate the .bin file downloaded from the link provided in Prerequisites and Select Manual Upgrade
The router will now update the firmware version to 8.5.0s059 build 5185
Be advised to click the download link in Firmware Upgrade message box in case of unintended failure
Select OK on the firmware upgrade confirmation window
NOTE: The upgrade process will take 5-7 minutes. Do not navigate away or disconnect from the router during this time
The firmware update window will appear to indicate the status of the upgrade
*NOTE* The router will reboot during the firmware upgrade which may cause the client device to lose connectivity. If the firmware installation appears to freeze, check to ensure you are still connected to the Peplink’s network and reconnect if necessary
Once the firmware update has completed, the new firmware version will be viewable from the main DASHBOARD
With 8.5.0s59 build 5185 loaded, check that the cellular module is detecting both SIM cards by selecting Dashboard. View the cellular connection in the WAN Connection Status section
Note: it may take some time to obtain a cellular connection. Once, you have obtained a cellular connection, move on to the Updating the cellular module’s firmware section
STEP 1 COMPLETE
Step 2: Updating the Cellular Module's firmware
Step 2: Updating the Cellular Module's firmware
To update the cellular firmware version, you must modify the Peplink modem’s Web UI URL.
